Aetherra has been designed around several privacy principles:

Information we collect
Depending on how you use the Service, we may collect the following categories of information.
Account information
When creating an account we may collect:
- email address;
- username;
- display name;
- encrypted password hash;
- profile avatar;
- country or region (optional);
- favourite game type (optional);
- age confirmation;
- date of birth (if provided);
- account preferences;
- legal acceptance timestamps.
Passwords are never stored in plain text.
OAuth information
When you choose to sign in using Google, Discord or Twitch we may receive:
- provider user ID;
- display name;
- profile avatar;
- verified email address (where supplied);
- authentication tokens required for login.
Your password for these services is never shared with Aetherra.
Game information
To operate the Service we may store:
- cloud save files;
- achievements;
- inventory;
- progression;
- decks;
- match history;
- unlocks;
- statistics;
- leaderboard entries;
- multiplayer participation;
- cross-game rewards;
- game preferences.
Technical information
We automatically collect limited technical information including:
- browser type;
- operating system;
- approximate device information;
- session identifiers;
- local device identifier;
- IP address;
- authentication logs;
- security logs;
- server request logs;
- cloud save revision numbers.
This information is used primarily for security, debugging and service operation.
Communications
If you contact us we may collect your email address, correspondence, support requests, bug reports, and screenshots you voluntarily provide.
Information we do not collect
At the time of writing we do not intentionally collect:
- government identification numbers;
- payment card information;
- biometric information;
- precise GPS location;
- health information;
- advertising identifiers;
- behavioural advertising profiles.
How we use information
We use information to:
- create accounts;
- authenticate users;
- synchronise cloud saves;
- restore progress;
- prevent cheating;
- secure accounts;
- operate multiplayer features;
- display leaderboards;
- provide customer support;
- improve gameplay;
- investigate abuse;
- comply with legal obligations;
- enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not use personal information for behavioural advertising.
Legal basis (EEA / UK users)
Where GDPR applies, we process personal information using one or more of the following legal bases:

Cookies and local storage
Aetherra uses essential cookies, session cookies, browser local storage and browser session storage.
These technologies allow us to:
- keep you signed in;
- remember preferences;
- synchronise cloud saves;
- identify save conflicts;
- improve security;
- store game progress.
We do not currently use advertising cookies, behavioural advertising technologies, or third-party tracking pixels.
Device identifiers
To improve cloud save reliability, the Service generates a random device identifier stored locally in your browser. This identifier does not uniquely identify you outside the Service, is not shared with advertisers, and helps resolve save conflicts between devices.
Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including:
- HTTPS encryption;
- bcrypt password hashing;
- secure authentication;
- access controls;
- server-side validation;
- rate limiting;
- account verification;
- audit logging.
No internet service can guarantee complete security. Users should also take reasonable steps to protect their own accounts, including using strong passwords and keeping login credentials confidential.
Sharing information
We only share information where reasonably necessary.
Infrastructure providers
Cloud hosting providers used to operate the Service.
OAuth providers
Google, Discord and Twitch — only when you choose to use those login methods.
Legal requirements
We may disclose information where required to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect users, investigate fraud, enforce our Terms, or protect our legal rights.
We do not sell personal information. We do not rent personal information. We do not share personal information with advertising networks.
International transfers
Because Aetherra operates internationally, your information may be processed in Australia, the United Kingdom, and other countries where authorised infrastructure providers operate. Where required, we will take reasonable steps to protect transferred information consistent with applicable privacy laws.
Data retention
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary.
- Account information — until account deletion.
- Cloud saves — until deletion by the user or account removal.
- Server logs — for operational and security purposes for a limited period.
- Backups — automated backups may retain deleted information for approximately seven (7) days before routine overwrite.
Legal obligations may require longer retention in limited circumstances.
Account deletion
Users may permanently delete their account through Account settings. Deletion removes account profile, linked OAuth providers, cloud saves, achievements, multiplayer records where appropriate, and associated game progression.
Certain records may be temporarily retained in backups or where required by law. Deletion of your account does not automatically remove information stored locally within your own browser.
Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction you may have rights to:
- access your information;
- correct inaccurate information;
- delete your account;
- export your information;
- object to certain processing;
- withdraw consent;
- lodge complaints with relevant authorities.
Requests may be made by contacting privacy@aetherra.app. You can also export account data from Account settings where available.
Marketing
Marketing emails are strictly optional. Users must actively opt in. You may unsubscribe at any time using Account settings, email unsubscribe links, or by contacting support.
Children's privacy
The Service is intended for users aged 13 years or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that information relating to a child under 13 has been collected, we will take reasonable steps to delete that information. Parents or guardians who believe a child has provided information should contact us immediately.
Data breaches
If we become aware of a data breach affecting personal information, we will investigate the incident and respond in accordance with applicable legal obligations. Where required by law, affected users and relevant authorities will be notified.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes may require users to review and accept the updated policy before continuing to use account-based features. The latest version will always be published at https://aetherra.app/privacy.html.
